Behind the Story
The first version of The Three Little Aussie Pigs didn’t start as a book — it started in a classroom.
While working as a teacher’s aide at a special school, I helped a student create our own retelling of The Three Little Pigs using paper-bag puppets. We made pigs and a wolf, acted out the story, took photos, and turned it into a simple digital book using Canva.
That’s where the baked beans came in.
And… the giant fart.
The humour came straight from the classroom — playful, surprising, and exactly the kind of twist that makes kids burst out laughing and beg to hear the story again.
Later, I realised there was something special in that version: it kept the familiar rhythm of the classic fairy tale but let it live in an Australian setting, with Australian animals, materials, and humour kids instantly connect with.
This published version is a refined, fully illustrated retelling — shaped for shared story time, classrooms, and families — but its heart still belongs to that original moment of creativity, collaboration, and joy.
