Interview
What inspired you to write Unravelled in New York?
I wanted to write a contemporary story that spanned two countries … I love New York so thought it would be the ideal place to start.
Did you know how Unravelled in New York was going to end when you started writing? Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Hmm well I might be a bit of both I think – maybe that makes me a planster? There was a scene towards the end of the book that I wrote early on and then I went back and wrote up to that scene. I guess you could say the pivotal scenes were planned but everything else I let the characters kind of go with the story a little bit.
How long did it take you to go from first idea to publication of Unravelled in New York?
It took two and half years, which sounds like such a long time, that I couldn’t believe it myself. Although it wasn’t all writing, I finished the story in August last year and then the rest of the time was going through the editing processes.
You're based in Sydney. How did you go about researching the New York setting?
I was so lucky to visit New York twice during the time I was writing the book, so I was able to do a lot of first hand research which I was able to include through the eyes of Charli. I also did a lot of research through reading and researching online.
Which character do you relate to most and why?
Maybe Charli. We do share a few similarities, I can relate to her fear of flying.
I love the cover! Who did your cover design?
Thank you – Deborah from Tugboat Designs put it together, she sent me three to choose from but I couldn’t go past this one, I think it was the colors and the style. She was wonderful to work with.
You also teach dancing. What style of dance is your favourite?
My favourite style of dance is musical theatre but I also love teaching ballet and jazz.
Do you listen to music when you write?
No – I really like a peaceful quite environment, although I think song lyrics can be really inspirational at times.
What do you like to do to relax?
I love to read! I love that feeling of getting into a good book that I can’t put down. I also love going to the movies and the beach in summer.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Thank you for interviewing me Renee and sharing my book with your readers. It’s so great to meet people this way, despite the distances between us all J Thank you!
Unravelled in New York by Suzanne Nicole
Sydney journalist Charli Cooper has no idea what destiny has in store for her as she packs her bags and moves half way around the world for a fresh start.
Jack Manning has issues letting anyone too close and is only interested in advancing himself and his company. He is used to getting what he wants and has no patience dealing with an inexperienced reporter who has no idea of the New York social hierarchy.
As she unlocks the truth about Manning and his empire, she realises all is not as it seems and if she digs deep enough, she might just find the story she has been looking for. But at what cost?
Will the secrets they both hold cause their delicately poised relationship to crumble?
Can one mistake unravel their lives?
A fun romance about an Aussie girl who runs away to New York after having her heart broken. I enjoyed going on the journey with Charli and seeing her toughen up as a journalist, without losing her compassion. I found her a likable and relatable character. Jack was a sexy balanced alpha male. I didn't really like him to begin with, but he grew on me.
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
