Rural Review Roundup

Hey Everyone,

I'm playing catchup with my book review writing. Here's a roundup of some Aussie rural reads from last year.

Dear BanjoDear Banjo by Sasha Wasley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A fabulous rural romance set in Western Australia. I adored this book, from the shiny gold-embossed cover to the letters scattered within. I barracked for this couple to get together the whole way through. I love the best friends to lovers trope and enjoyed Sasha's take on this.

One More SongOne More Song by Nicki Edwards
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I adore Nicki Edward's writing style. I've read all her books and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. I love the combination of medical and rural romance - all the small town busybody issues without the farm equipment. And this time, there's a bit of rock star romance thrown in.

She never saw it coming

Hey Everyone!

I was reading this week's Australian Writers' Centre newsletter and came across this fun writing challenge.
Your story must be no more than 50 WORDS in length and must include the words “summer”, “eighteen” and “dinosaur” – plus end with the sentence “She never saw it coming.”
I managed to write an eight-word story for another challenge so I figured I'd give this one a go. I usually write on my laptop but this exercise was the perfect length to do longhand. I even managed to work a military life theme into it.

What is the meaning of life?

Hey Everyone!

I always thought the meaning of life was 42. Yep, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy nerd. But since I still don't know what the question is, I think this sums it up better.

Are you a healthy writer?

Hey Everyone!

Are you a writer, like me? More importantly, are you a healthy writer? Joanna Penn and Dr Euan Lawson have some fabulous tips on how to be a healthy writer. Here's the press release, book description and my book review.

Around 62% of writers have experienced work-related stress, according to a new survey from TheCreativePenn.com, a website for writers. Writing is considered a dream job by many, but is it actually killing authors slowly?

Stand out reads of 2017

Hey Everyone!

Happy New Year! I'm taking the first day of 2018 to reflect on the 133 books I read last year. There were so many fabulous reads, that it's difficult to choose a favourite, so here are a bunch that stood out and stayed with me. Half of my top picks are Aussie authors, with romance, women's fiction and suspense dominating my reading choices. I fell behind in writing reviews, so I'm linking to the book images to Amazon US via an affiliate link so you can read the burbs there (and if you choose to buy the books from the link, I'll receive a small fee). I know that not everyone uses Amazon or lives in the USA (I'm Aussie) but I've decided to focus on simplifying my life this year, so I'm choosing not to post multiple links here.  If you like the look of a book, feel free to search for it in your favourite store. The books are listed in no particular order.
