Summer by the Sea by Jenny Hale

For Faith the one summer she can’t forget is when she fell in love as a teenager – only for her sister, Casey, to steal her man. Now, at the request of her beloved ninety-year-old Grandmother, Faith has agreed to a family holiday – at their childhood beach house, where it all began.

Faith hasn’t seen her sister in years but is finally ready to forgive and forget, enjoy the sunshine and relive happy memories. What she’s not ready for is meeting Jake Buchanan – the owner of the beach house – or the long-forgotten feelings he ignites in her.

Can Faith overcome the hurt of the past, rekindle the close bond she had with Casey and make this summer THE ONE to remember?

Hey! Here's my review.

This book started out slowly but within a few chapters, I was caught up in the story. There was lots of fun romance as well as the rebuilding of family relationships. I enjoyed seeing the sisters grow and come to realise that there's more than one side to the story. I loved the gorgeous beach setting.

I listened to a review copy of the audiobook. The narrator was a great match to the book and was easy to listen too.

The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress Hops the Atlantic by Tam Francis

swing dance, lindy hop, vintage, dancing, WWII
~Fall in Love on the Dance Floor~

When vintage fashionista Rose sews dissension between June and James, June is driven to choose between the security of her family, friends, and swing scene, or run off with an international swing boy.

Will the handsome Swede turn June’s head with an offer to teach Jitterbug across Europe? And is he really the sparkling Lindy Hop star he claimed to be when he twirled her around the historic Catalina ballroom?

Return to Violet’s world of big band jazz, seedy nightclubs, and WWII. Follow her through 1940s Los Angeles and early wartime Vegas when she transformed herself into a jazzy songbird.

Will the truth about the murder, the mob, and her murky history undo her rekindled relationship with her lost Jitterbug love and newfound family? And will Violet, Charles, and June finally confirm a biological connection?

The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress Hops the Atlantic continues the story of two women from two different eras, confronting life-altering choices about love, marriage, birth, and death, contrasted by 1940s Vegas glamour and the seductive thrill of hopping across Europe.

Hey! Here's my review.

I absolutely adored the first book in this series (The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress) and snapped up a copy of the sequel as soon as it was released. I loved finding out more about June and Violet's stories. Swing dancing is a passion of mine and Tam does a wonderful job of immersing you in the swing dance culture of the early 1940s and of the resurgence in the late 1990s. Dancing, romancing, what more could you want?

I recommend reading book one first and I can't wait until the final book in the trilogy is released.

The Fifth Letter by Nicola Moriarty

A fun vacation game turns destructive, exposing dark secrets, deeply buried grudges, and a shocking betrayal in Nicola Moriarity’s intriguing debut.

Four friends . . .

Joni, Deb, Eden, and Trina have been best friends since high school, sharing a bond that has seen them through their teenage years and into adulthood. But now, time and circumstance is starting to pull them apart as careers, husbands, and babies get in the way. As their yearly vacation becomes less of a priority—at least for three of the women—how can Joni find a way to draw the four of them back together?

Four secrets . . .

During a laughter and wine-filled night, the women dare one another to write anonymous letters, spilling their deepest, darkest secrets. But the fun game turns devastating, exposing cracks in their lives and the friendships they share. Each letter is a dark confession revealing shocking information. A troubled marriage? A substance abuse problem? A secret pregnancy? A heartbreaking diagnosis?

Five letters . . .

Late on one of their last nights together, after the other three have gone to bed, Joni notices something in the fireplace—a burnt, crumpled, nearly destroyed, sheet of paper that holds the most shattering revelation of all. It is a fifth letter—a hate-filled rant that exposes a vicious, deeply hidden grudge that has festered for decades. But who wrote it? Which one of them has seethed with resentment all these years? What should Joni do?

Best friends are supposed to keep your darkest secrets. But the revelations Joni, Deb, Eden and Trina have shared will ripple through their lives with unforeseen consequences . . . and things will never be the same.

Hey! Here's my review.

It seemed like the universe was speaking to me when within a few days, two of my friends recommended that I read Nicola Moriarty. That was enough of a prompt to check out her books. I discovered that one was being released within a couple of days, so I used my handy US Audible credit to preorder the audiobook. I downloaded my copy a couple of weeks before it became available to my Aussie friends and devoured it within two days.

I loved the Aussie setting and the relationships between the friends. I was intrigued to find out their secrets. The method of storytelling was unique - via a narrator who often slipped into the background. The majority of the story was told by one of the four friends via a confession to a minister.

The narrator was a great match to the book. She spoke clearly and was easy to listen to. I look forward to reading from Nicola.

Love Onboard Blog Tour

LOVE ONBOARD! CUPID’S CARIBBEAN CRUISE has set sail! Join the cruise guests and watch Cupid hit his targets!

Love Onboard: Cupid's Caribbean Cruise. . . . Waves of New Contemporary Romance stories are coming from some of your favorite romance authors, all set aboard a Valentine’s singles cruise.

Order on Amazon || Add to your TBR Shelf on Goodreads || Watch the trailer on YouTube

Too Fast for Love by Lilly Christine - Race Car Driver Luke Devlin’s anger issues bring him to a screeching stop, but Love Expert Lacey Lipinski has the keys to help him recalibrate. Can a cruise ship fling survive life in the fast lane?

When not hunched over her laptop dreaming up strong female leads in sassy dialogue with dashing male counterparts, Lilly Christine can be found hiking and down-dogging with her two dogs and one cat. In addition to reading, she enjoys several outdoor activities including riding horses, gardening, and biking.

Just One Look by Deb Julienne - On a secret mission for her father, Diana Clay aka ‘Diana Tolliver’ finds herself alone on a singles cruise. She befriends a passenger and they play a game...date for a cruise. Each must pick out the others date for the duration of the cruise. Between her research on the ship and her new “boyfriend” she has her hands full.

USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author Deb Julienne has penned multiple romantic comedy and western novels and anthologies. While some say truth is stranger than fiction, her experiences run more along the lines of a slapstick comedy. She makes her own Limoncello...enough said. After the day job, she loves to play in the kitchen concocting award-winning jams, jellies, preserves, and sauces (with alcohol of course). Born and raised in San Jose, California, she now resides in her own little bit of heaven in the Sierra Tahoe National Forest Basin, with her husband of 35 years, their three sons and one daughter, and five very precious grandchildren with number six on the way.

Pirated Pixie by Shea McMaster - Irene Lundquist has no plans for romance while on the cruise with her jilted best friend and his groomsmen. She's surprised when Dutch Marshal’s good looks and charm do nothing to help her relax, and everything to steal her heart. For Dutch, things get complicated when the best man in charge of the group plans is a gorgeous pixie-sized redhead woman who lights his fire. Can either of them make it through the singles cruise and remain single, or will they get the happily ever after neither of them was looking for?

Shea McMaster lives for traditional romance. Born in New Orleans, raised in California, Shea got moved to Alaska in 1977, where she attended high school before running back to California to get her English degree from Mills College. Alas, once back home she met and fell in love with her own forever true hero, a born and raised Alaska man. Since then she’s had a love-hate relationship with America’s largest state. With her one and only son grown and on his own, Shea is fortunate to spend her days playing with the furry child, and engaged in daydreaming, turning those dreams into romantic novels and novellas featuring damsels in distress rescued by their own brains and hunky heroes. She also writes under the steamy romances under the name Morgan O’Reilly.

Healing Hearts by Michele Shriver - After a bitter divorce and custody battle, Taryn Bradfield’s best friend books her on a singles cruise, where she meets Makai Grant, an airline pilot burnt out on love. Sailing the Caribbean, Taryn and Makai find healing and passion in each other’s arms, but too soon, the ship returns to port. Was it a vacation fling, or the start of something more?

Michele Shriver is a National and International best-selling author of women’s fiction and contemporary romance. Her books feature flawed-but-likeable characters in real-life settings. She’s not afraid to break the rules, but never stops believing in happily ever after. Michele counts among her favorite things a good glass of wine, a hockey game, and a sweet and sexy book boyfriend, not necessarily in that order.

Cinderella at Sea by Ellen Wilder - When girl next door Manda Reilly discovers hero country singer Hunter Cross is onboard her singles cruise, Manda finds herself indulging in the exotic. Hunter’s heroism goes more than skin-deep. Can the man she’s known forever really be her one true love?

Ellen Wilder was born and raised in Indiana. She is happily married to her husband of five years and enjoys raising their two girls and one boy in the house where she grew up. They have a border collie/corgi mix named Loki.

Her parents started reading to Ellen and her siblings at a very young age. They quickly tired of books for younger children and turned to chapter books like Tarzan, The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings forging Ellen's love for reading.

Ellen started writing in Junior High with an assignment from her computer writing teacher. Her first attempt at a modern day Old Yeller crossover with NYPD Blue was "awful", but that didn't stop the inspiration from flowing. Ellen now writes contemporary romance novels with a realistic twist to them. If you’re looking for fairy tales, you won’t find them here as her characters deal with real life issues. She loves helping people with their writing, paying forward the help that she has received allowing her to be where she is today.

Not a Barbie Kind of Girl

Hey Everyone!

I'd like to introduce you to Sandy Vaile, who is on tour with her lastest book, Combating Fear.

I'm Sandy and my motto in life is...

I’ll try anything once

To that end, I take every opportunity that presents and have a wealth of life experiences to draw on when writing.

These include riding a motorbike, skydiving, hot air ballooning, getting tattoos, swimming with sharks and turtles, and having the privilege to carry the Olympic flame.

The common denominator in my stories is courageous, gritty heroines who don't especially need the strong heroes who sweep them off their feet, but when they do find Mr. Right, they're not afraid to hold on tight.

Not a Barbie Kind of Girl

Hi, I’m Sandy Vaile, a motorbike-riding daredevil who isn’t content with a story unless there’s a courageous heroine and a dead body. When I’m not devising horrible things to do to fictional characters, I write procedures for high-risk industrial activities, mentor new writers through the Novelist’s Circle critiquing group, judge romance writing competitions, present literary craft workshops, and write the odd articles and blog.

As you may have gathered, I’ve never been a Barbie type of girl. As a child I was labelled a Tom Boy, which suited me fine, because I got to drive Action Man around in an army jeep. Then as a teenager I was horse mad. I rode them, wrote stories about them, and had a crush on Mark Holden from the “Blue Fire Lady” movie.
I like to think I’ve matured since then, but I can’t say I’ve settled down. Sure, I have a dedicated husband and two sons who tower over me, even a dog that won’t let me out of his sight, but given half a chance, I’ve been known to jump out of a perfectly good plane, float in a hot air balloon, and even swim with a shark (on purpose).
It was my twenty-ninth birthday when the motorcycle bug bit me, and it was all hubby’s fault. Honest! He sent me on a joy ride with a friend who owned a gorgeous, bright yellow, Triumph Daytona 900cc. (If that sounds like a foreign language, then just imagine a warm chocolate brownie with a side of vanilla bean ice-cream and you’ll understand the drool factor.)
Every two weeks I hassled said friend for another pillion ride, until two months later I announced that I was going to get my license. Poor hubby; there wasn’t much he could do other than join me. I’ve been riding for close to two decades and still get a buzz every time I ride through the Adelaide hills and down the Fleurieu Peninsula. Adelaidians are truly blessed to have such marvellous scenery on our doorsteps.
So is it any wonder that I write kick-arse heroines who live on the Fleurieu Peninsula?
Neve is the heroine in my new book, “Combatting Fear”. She’s a kindergarten teacher by day, and has a special affinity for one of her students, Rowan, because he looks just like her late brother. So much so that sometimes it’s painful.
She is generous and compassionate, and yet has committed to spinsterhood, because that’s what is best for her war-traumatized father. His special brand of paranoia and combat training is certainly one way to keep potential suitors at bay. What Neve never considered, was what would happen if she found someone she actually wanted to let in.
That someone is self-made multi-billionaire, Micah. Neve is drawn into his desperate for his son, despite him standing for everything she despises. But it’s what she discovers under the public image that is really attractive. A passion for renewable energy, family values, and the courage to fight for those he loves.
I’d love to hear about your adventurous side, and what qualities you admire in heroines. Leave a comment on this blog and get 1 entry to win the “Combatting Fear” eBook. Subscribe to my newsletter and get 3 more entries.

Combatting Fear by Sandy Vaile

How far would you go to save a child that wasn’t yours?
Mild-mannered kindergarten teacher, Neve Botticelli, leads a double life. At home with her paranoid father, she is a combat trained survivalist who lives off-the-grid.
When self-made billionaire, Micah Kincaid, storms into town in search of his four-year-old son, Rowan, he’s pushy, entitled, and stands for everything Neve despises.
But something far more sinister than a cheating estranged wife, is lurking in rural Turners Gully, and it has its sights set on little Rowan’s inheritance. It turns out there is one thing Micah and Neve can agree on, and that’s keeping Rowan safe.
As they work together to free Rowan, they glimpse beneath one another’s guises, and realise that falling in love could be even more dangerous than hunting deadly criminals.

Hey! Here's my review.
This book sucked me in from page one with a cute kid then took me for a thumping ride full of sexual tension and suspense. Just how a romantic suspense should be. I loved seeing the alpha male hero meet his match with the sweet kindergarten teacher and get put in his place. There was a whole lot more than meets the eye with Neve.

There's a Crocodile on the Golf Course by Rachel Barnett

Hey Everyone!

I'd like to introduce you to Rachel Barnett. I met Rachel at an editing workshop in Darwin last year. She has just released her debut children's book - There's a Crocodile on the Golf Course.

Rachel Barnett has been writing and drawing all of her life... or most of it anyway. She lives on Groote Eylandt, a small island paradise in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is remote, exceptionally far away from everything, but it is a magical place, steeped in culture, history and good people and, my goodness, it is beautiful. Rachel is a teacher across the small schools on Groote, and really loves her day job. Rachel also loves to write - it is a passion that has stayed with her since childhood. She holds an Arts Degree with majors in Creative Writing and English from Flinders University and loves to draw, paint and design. Combining all of these passions, she has just completed her first illustrated children's book, There's a Crocodile on the Golf Course, and there are more on the way.

There's a Crocodile on the Golf Course by Rachel Barnett

There's a Crocodile on the Golf Course... and he's not having a very good game! Luckily he has his friends, Goanna, Quoll and Frilly with him to help him out. Will he get a hole in one?

There's a Crocodile on the Golf Course is a delightfully illustrated tale which explores golf, friendships... and cranky crocodiles! Author and illustrator Rachel Barnett takes us around the course with Croco as he plays a round of golf. His friends, Goanna, Quoll and Frilly join in, but things don't start well for Croco. He is cranky and not having any fun. Although the game is just not going his way, his friends are there to help him out and offer some fun and friendship along the way. Soon things are looking up and by the end of the game he gets the ultimate reward... a hole-in-one!

This book was inspired by the real life crocodile which frequents the Alyangula Golf Course. It is a lighthearted, read-out-loud tale ideal for the golfing enthusiast or anyone else to share with the children in their life. Children will love the Australian animal characters and the vibrant illustrations so much they will want to read it again and again.

The Dangers of Truffle Hunting by Sunni Overend

True desires will be unearthed … For readers of Zoe Foster-Blake, Candace Bushnell and Gourmet Traveller, a delightful sexy story that spans the Australian wine country, the French provinces and hip bars of Melbourne.

Is life too short to play it safe?

Kit Gossard's life is neatly mapped out. A secure photographic job. A partner ready to commit. A wedding in the family vineyard for her mother to preside over. So why the apprehension? Why a hunger for something ... more?

Then someone new appears. Earthy, reserved, magnetic, this new man brings out feelings she has long suppressed, and suddenly Kit can't contain her simmering discontent. Black truffle hunting, illicit pastry lessons, vine fruit on flesh - Kit is seduced. It feels right. Before it all goes wrong.

Artful, sexy, sophisticated, The Dangers Of Truffle Hunting explores how a man can be more to a woman than a destination.

Hey! Here's my review.

Raw and real.
Sunni has a beautiful and unique voice. I haven't read anything else quite like this. I loved the contrast of the down to earth sibling relationship with the stilted mother-daughter relationship, then the romance - swoon. The food. The photography. I felt like I was there, seeing it all, and that's a huge thing for me because I struggle to visualise things.

Hey Everyone!
In my last post, I reviewed Plan Bea by Hilary Grossman (again, because I loved it so much). I reread it in anticipation of the sequel, due to release soon. Today, I'm excited to share the cover of Plan Cee.

It's so pretty! And complements the new Plan Bea cover so well. Here's a bit about Plan Cee.

Would you abandon your present for a second chance at your past?

Cecelia Reynolds has spent most of her life trying to forget the commitment-phobic man who broke her heart. It wasn’t easy, but eventually, she did it, or so she thought…

As Cecelia and her husband gather for a friend’s wedding, her perfect world is thrown into complete turmoil. Even though it’s been twenty years since she last laid eyes on Keith Emerson, all it takes is one glance for her to feel emotions she thought were long gone. When Keith ends up officiating the ceremony, she quickly realizes his message of love is directed at her, not the happy couple. But can she believe him?

We live our entire lives thinking we know ourselves. But do we ever really?

As secrets and lies cause Cecelia’s world to spin completely out of control, she is forced to seek advice from the most unlikely ally. In the process, she must confront the demons of her past and the events that shaped her into the woman she is now. Will she finally learn the real meaning of love, friendship, and family?

While this book is a sequel to Plan Bea, it also reads as a standalone.
